EmailAs many of you know, each regional Triad maintains a regional website for their region in LG. We’re not required to do this, but in this day and age of electronic and Internet communication, a website is almost a requirement – especially when you consider the massive amounts of stuff used in Living Greyhawk.
When I became Triad in March 2004, I took over handling and maintenance of the website. Since that time – we’ve initiated a lot of improvements. We’ve implemented a very customizable content management system that can be updated very easily and quickly. We’ve move all of our regional documentation to the website because that option was far more flexible than could be had via Yahoo. We’ve created a centralized Event Calendar where anyone can submit an event to be listed. In short – we’ve made the website a one-stop shopping portal for the region so it was as easy as possible for people to get our regional documents.
These upgrades have come with a cost.
The website hosting is $10.58 a month. Not a lot, when taken on a monthly basis – but it adds up over three years (to about $380.88).
The purchase of the Content Management System was $125.00, and yearly support (which includes upgrades and access to modular enhancements) runs $45.00 a month (for a total of $215.00 over three years.
This brings a grand total of $595.88 and doesn’t include any custom development I’ve commissioned (in an attempt to have some components designed for LG created – like the Character Registry, which I have tried to have fixed several times to no avail due to a lack of funds).
Long story short – I have placed a new section on the Verbobonc website for donations via PayPal. If you have found the Verbobonc website to be a useful resource and can donate a few bucks to help offset the cost of maintaining it, I would be very grateful. I’m not looking for this to be my get-rich-quick scheme – I just want to recoup some of the money I’ve put into this, and maybe see about getting some new enhancements made (like perhaps an automated adventure distribution system – so people aren’t waiting on us to respond to adventure requests).
Thanks!
